Welcome to Summerhouse Ceramics, the pottery website for Fiona Wilcock. The Summerhouse is mainly where is throw and make my pots, though sometimes they appear in the kitchen where I carve designs into the clay, and have better access to cups of tea!
Ceramics is a huge discipline, and is the journey of a lifetime. I’m just beginning, and there is so much to learn, both in terms of skills but also in understanding how this glorious mix of earth, water and fire creates pots of such variety.
I work mostly in stoneware clay, and I throw using an electric potters wheel. Some items I cover with slip and then carve designs – this is sgraffito, and other pots I colour with oxides and luscious glazes. My raku kiln which produces another array of ceramics delights.
